The biggest weakness and the strongest barrier to writing that I’ve found is when I sit down to write, I write about the situation, my reactions to it, and not the scene itself, so what writing I’ve done has wound up being exclusively for myself, because nearly all the references themselves – the incidents, the events, even the participants – have been pre-censored .
There’s a lot of “I can’t write today”, too. It’s not a matter of not having anything to write about, or anything to say. I often use the metaphor of the MCP from the movie, TRON, the Master Control Program. The inner core spins counter-clockwise, but there is an outer core that spins clockwise, preventing the TRON disc from getting in – or in my case, preventing anything from getting out. I’ve tried to do this for thirty-seven years, and gotten exactly this far.
